JOHOR BARU: Consumers should not allow people who claim to be personnel authorised to examine cooking gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders into their homes.
Johor Consumerism, Domestic Trade and Tourism exco Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry had never authorised any organisation to conduct such checks.
“Usually, consumers are urged to conduct their own checks to ensure that the gas cylinders are good for use and the gas caps closed properly.
“The people should not let in those who claim that they are from gas companies who want to perform checks on the cooking equipment,” he told reporters during a LPG safety and awareness programme at the Sri Stulang Flats here yesterday.
He urged homeowners to report such cases to the ministry via its hotline 1800-88-6800.
Tee also reminded consumers to conduct regular checks on their cooking stoves and LPG cylinder heads from time to time.
“It is important that consumers use equipment approved by the authorities,” he added.
