#LahadDatu: Disease prevention and treatment at shelters

Everything is in place for disease prevention and treatment at the four temporary shelters for the displaced villagers in Felda Sahabat 16, about 130km from Lahad Datu town.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said six medical and health teams had been sent there to monitor the cleanliness as well as health of displaced villagers.

The teams are also assigned to give personal hygiene and other health-related talks to villagers to prevent disease outbreaks

Liow said two psychiatrists would be taking turns to provide counselling to traumatised villagers and security forces.

He said this after visiting injured security forces at the Lahad Datu town. He had earlier visited the shelter in Chenderawasih with Sabah health director Dr Christina Rundi and other medical staff.

He added that four containers to keep bodies of the killed Sulu gunmen had also been placed at the hospital here as the existing mortuary was not big enough.

“After the post-mortems, the police will decide what to do with the bodies,” he stated.

He added that the ministry would be allocating new equipment such as haemodialysis machines, three ambulances and a high frequency ultrasound machine to improve the facilities at the Lahad Datu Hospital.
