Visitors to the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima 2013) were treated to a spectacle of high speed chases and air manoeuvres during a demonstration by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here.
The 45-minute demonstration involved dramatic action moves from 20 ships and aircraft taking part in an attempt to stop a ship suspected of carrying dangerous chemicals.
When officers tried to board the ship, they were attacked by criminals. A rescue operation then ensued, involving Paskal (navy commandos) diving into the sea to join the operation.
Another action sequence involved a fire-fighting mission by the MMEA's amphibious Bombardier aircraft that can scoop up to 6,000 litres of water in 12 seconds.
The assets involved in the demonstration included the navy's Zodiac and CB90 boats, Super Lynx and Fennec helicopters. The MMEA showcased its Kilar and Petir boats along with their Agusta Westland, Dauphin and Bombardier aircraft.
The show ended with the Bombardier releasing water in front of the audience, creating a rainbow while helicopters swooped above the audience.
Among the VIPs who attended the demonstration at Resorts World in Porto Malai yesterday were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar.
Also present were Malaysian Armed Forces chief Jeneral Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, MMEA chief Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish and Customs Department chief Datuk Khazali Ahmad.
