DUNGUN: When a Mara officer approached Muhd Shah @ Abdullah Salleh and Rokayah Mohd at their home in Kg Gong Pasir near here on Monday morning, they assumed it was about their 22-year-old daughter Hanisah’s scholarship.
They had on Friday sent their youngest daughter to KLIA as she was flying back to Moscow to continue her studies at the Nishny Novgorod State Medical Academy.
But instead, Muhd Shah, 62, and Rokayah, 60, were informed that Hanisah had died in an accident while on the way to her campus from the Moscow airport.
“I broke down when I heard the bad news,” said Muhd Shah.
Hanisah was one of the two Malaysian medical students who died in the accident. They were with a group of five other Malaysian students who were returning to their campus in Vladimirskaya, Russia, after spending Hari Raya in Malaysia.
The other student who died in the accident has been identified as PSD scholar Adzreen Dimyati, 22, from Putrajaya.
The mini-bus they were travelling in collided with another mini-bus about 120km south of Moscow on Sunday.
“I said goodbye to her at KLIA. I never expected it to be the last goodbye,” said Muhd Shah.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Adzreen’s sister Adzlin, 27, had feared that something bad had befallen her third sibling after her SMS was not answered.
“I sent an SMS to Adzreen to enquire if she had arrived in Russia but it was not answered.
“Normally, she would contact the family as soon as she arrives there but this time she did not inform us at all,” she said when met in Putrajaya.
She said that on Monday morning, the family was informed by her brother that Adzreen had been killed in an accident.
Adzlin said the whole family was shocked and saddened by the bad news especially her mother Aini Abaas, 52, and Adzreen’s twin sister Adzwin, who is studying medicine in Poland.
Arrangements are being made to bring both bodies back to Malaysia for burial.
