Kuala Muda drowned victim found

KEPALA BATAS: The body of a 28-year old man who was swept away by currents off the coast in Kuala Muda, Penaga here has been found.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Abd Rahman Ibrahim said factory worker Amran Mohd Yusof's body was found by fishermen who helped out in a search and rescue operations at about 7.50am Tuesday.

He said they found Amran's body afloat near the rivermouth of Sungai Kuala Muda, some 200metres away from where he had supposedly drowned.

Amran, from Padang Serai, Kedah, was on a family outing to collect siput kepah (mussels) when the incident happened at about 11am on Monday.

Amran had joined his twin brother, Amir, a relative Shahrulnizam Abdul Rani and Shahrulnizam's two sons Muhammad Azli Firdaus, 13, and Muhammad Azrul Fahmi, 11, on his first trip to collect the mussels.

The rest survived and were rescued by a fisherman.

His family claimed his body at the Kepala Batas Hospital mortuary.
