KUALA LUMPUR: Street demonstrations and ‘mooning’ are not values young Malaysians should be proud of, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Street demonstration is not a Malaysian value that we would want to encourage; neither is the act of dropping one’s pants in public,” he said when launching the Preliminary Report of the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2025 here yesterday.
Najib made the remarks in reference to the Merdeka Day eve gathering here where a college student bared his buttocks over a photograph of the prime minister.
Najib said changes to the nation’s education system must not only focus on acquiring knowledge and skills for the country’s econo- mic benefits but must also equip Malaysians with proper values.
“Investments and international trade is important. But if all these are not based on quality education and Malaysians do not have the right knowledge, our hopes will come to nought,” he said.
