Keep the peace, rakyat told

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V called upon the people to have a strong sense of loyalty and love as well as be willing to sacrifice for the country.

He also urged the rakyat to continue contributing towards nation-building by ensuring that peace, harmony and tolerance prevailed among the races and religion.

Sultan Muhammad said the development which the people enjoyed today were due to these. “I urge Malaysians of all races to maintain good relations and continue to practice tolerance. Racial sensitivity must also be looked after.

“Let us all double our efforts to maintain peace in our beloved country,” he said at the Warriors’ Day celebration.

Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

Sultan Muhammad reminded Armed Forces and police personnel that they were entrusted to protect the safety of the country.

He said as such they should be honest and committed in carrying out their responsibilities.

July 31 is celebrated as Warriors’ Day every year and despite the celebration being held during Ramadan and an early morning shower this year, a steady crowd gathered at Dataran Merdeka to witness it.

Sultan Muhammad earlier inspected a guard of honour mounted by three officers and 102 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment led by Major Khairul Azman Kormin.
