Snatch victim nearly loses arm after thief slashes her

KOTA BARU: A woman almost had her left arm severed after a snatch thief slashed her with a parang when she tried to stop him from grabbing her handbag along Jalan Che Su here.

In the 1.30pm incident, Rohairani Abdullah was walking into a shop selling scarves when the snatch thief tried to grab her handbag.

According to a witness Hidayah Daud, 21, who works at the shop, the snatch thief came from behind and grabbed the handbag from the victim

“I saw the thief attacking the victim when she fought back. She was trying to save her handbag.

“The woman fell on the pavement bleeding profusely. While all these were happening, many people rushed over after hearing her loud screams.

“Even then, the thief was still trying to grab the handbag and in the process dragged the bleeding victim but gave up after a while,” said Hidayah, adding that the suspect escaped on a waiting motorcycle.

She said those who came to the victim's aid bandaged her almost-severed arm before an ambulance brought her to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Azham Othman, who confirmed the incident, said: “The victim from Pintu Geng here suffered a serious injury. The main arteries in her arm were completely cut off,” he said.

ACP Azham said the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code and appealed to the public to come forward if they had information.
