Dr M: People should play their part to ensure peace

The people should play their part to ensure a peaceful situation in the country.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the country was fortunate not to have faced serious natural disasters.

“Our country is lucky. So we must maintain our ways without resorting to violence. It is better to take our differences to Parliament,” he said in a speech last night to bid farewell to senators Datuk Maijol Mahap, Dr S. Suppiah and Dr Syed Husin Ali who had completed their terms.

Dr Mahathir hoped that the next general election would be conducted peacefully without disruptions by irresponsible quarters.

He said Malaysia's success in maintaining stability was due to the cooperation between the various races.

“All the Malays, Chinese and Indians must sacrifice for the country,” he stressed.
