Killed — suspected car thief involved in shooting of policemen

KUALA LUMPUR: A suspected car thief believed to be involved in the recent shooting of two policemen at Jalan Kuchai Lama was killed in a shoot-out with the police.

The drama unfolded after a police patrol car tried to stop a Proton Waja near Mid Valley Megamall at around 3am yesterday.

The driver sped off when the police attempted to stop the car. A chase ensued until the suspect lost control of his vehicle at the parking lot of a water theme park nearby, said City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah.

“When police approached the car, the 32-year-old suspect opened fire at them.

“My men had no choice but to return fire and the suspect succumbed to gun shot wounds,” he said yesterday.

“A semi-automatic pistol along with several rounds of 9mm bullets as well as two bullet shells were found in the car,” he said, adding that the vehicle was reported stolen in Kelana Jaya recently.

SAC Ku said police believe the deceased along with two other men were involved in the shooting of Kpl Nor Azlan Abu Bakar, 42, and Kpl R. Subramaniam, 52, at Jalan Kuchai Lama on Sept 26.

In that case, the two policemen were checking out a suspicious-looking car when several men in the vehicle shot at them before speeding away.

They were rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre by a police back-up team where they were given emergency treatment for wounds on the neck and chest.

SAC Ku said police were tracing the whereabouts of Wan Fadrulzaman Wan Mohamad Fadil, 30, (pic) along with Mohamad Fitri Abdul Aziz, 17.

“We believe these two men were in the Proton Iswara at the time the two policemen were shot,” he said while urging those with information on the suspects to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
