Sales assistant gets jail and rotan for CBT

KUALA LUMPUR: A sales assistant was sentenced to 13 years’ jail and seven strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to committing seven counts of criminal breach of trust against his company.

Bong Kuek Chern, 25, admitted to committing the offences against the company before judge Mahmud Abdullah.

He admitted to not transferring to his company payments he had received from customers, and modifying sales invoice bills to cover his deeds.

He committed the offences in his capacity as a company salesman responsible for preparing invoices and receiving customer payments.

The offences all occurred at the company headquarters in Taman Kepong here at various dates between April and July this year.

According to the facts of the case, Bong’s company suffered losses amounting to RM21,704.07 due to his actions.

The cumulative prison sentences from all seven charges comes out to 13 years, however, Bong will serve only three years as the sentences will run concurrently.

In mitigation, Bong asked for a light sentence, saying he had two children to support, including a newborn.
