Thieves get a gold-en opportunity

Thieves broke into the house of Permatang Pauh Umno Youth chief Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said and escaped with valuables worth over RM100,000.

Mohd Zaidi and his wife Santanina Salleh were away at the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur when the theft took place.

The thieves carted away a metal safe believed to contain three gold bars weighing a total of 750g and worth RM100,000 from the house at Kampung Tanjung Putus, Permatang Pasir, here.

Also missing were three laptops, a land title, several personal documents and a Honda motorcycle.

Mohd Zaidi said the break-in was discovered at about 6am yesterday by his father Said Abdul Hamid, 70, who lived nearby.

He said his father found the back door of the house open and the place ransacked.

Mohd Zaidi was told of the incident about an hour after he returned from Kuala Lumpur.

“We believe there were more than one person involved as all the rooms were ransacked and the safe, which was kept in the master bedroom, had been carted away,” he said,

Mohd Zaidi added that the motorcycle belonged to his son.

A spokesman from the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters confirmed the incident.
