5,000 new recruits to beef up force

BATU KAWAN: The police are recruiting 5,000 people to join as constables, inspectors and sergeants in the force, said Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid.

“They will replace retired officers as well as those who had died or those whose service were terminated,” he added.

He said Bukit Aman was also looking into the rules for the public to join the Police Volunteer Reserve in terms of physical fitness, qualification and the allowance to be paid.

“We hope the allowance can be increased in order to attract more participants,” Comm Salleh told reporters in Pulau Aman here after a high-profile policing session.

He also said that the crime index nationwide had dropped by 10% from January to June compared to the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, police will launch the 26th edition of Ops Sikap on Aug 10.
