Hundreds of thousands of ringgit lost in JB furniture factory blaze

JOHOR BARU: A furniture factory in Taman Tampoi Indah lost hundreds of thousands of ringgit when it was razed in a fire.

Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Omera Omar said his department was notified of the fire at about 3.30pm yesterday and arrived at the scene some 12 minutes later.

“Heavy traffic and people parking their cars by the road shoulder caused a jam which hampered our operations.

“A total of seven fire-engines with 23 personnel were deployed to the scene,” he said.

Omera added that the fire was brought under control at around 3.55pm and the department was still investigating the cause.

“Initial investigations revealed the fire may have started from the ground floor of the building,” he said.

The firemen were sending off Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim who attended a bubur lambuk cooking ceremony at the station when they received the distress call.

Tunku Idris had earlier distributed aid to family members of firemen at the Larkin Fire Station in conjunction with the fasting month.

The items were donated by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
