Five-month-old infant in a coma after alleged abuse

ALOR SETAR: A five-month-old baby boy has been in a coma for nearly a month — caused by bleeding in the head and eyes — allegedly due to abuse.

Muhamad Taufiq Danial Amri Izwan is on a life-support system at the intensive care unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital after undergoing treatment to remove a blood clot in the head.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, the baby’s mother Rosmira Ramli, 28, from Taman Bagan, Kulim, said she took Muhamad Taufiq Danial to the Kulim Hospital from her 50-year-old babysitter’s home on June 20 after being informed that her son was taken ill.

“When I reached the hospital, a doctor told me that my son was no longer breathing, but they managed to revive him,” she said, adding that Muhamad Taufiq Danial was transferred to the hospital in Alor Setar on the same day.

Rosmira, who works at a supermarket, said the hospital lodged a police report because it suspected that Muhamad Taufiq Danial could have been abused as his face had turned blue from lack of oxygen.

Hapless condition: Muhamad Taufiq Danial remains on life support.
Rosmira’s husband Amri Izwan Ibrahim, 29, who lodged another police report the next day, said he was saddened over the babysitter’s attitude because she told the doctors that Muhamad Taufiq Danial had choked on milk.

Kulim OCPD Supt Ghuzlan Salleh confirmed that he had received both reports. — Bernama
