RAUB: Changing the Government is not as simple as changing clothes, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
He said the Opposition could say all it wanted about toppling the Government, but ultimately the power rested with the people.
“The people hold the right to choose the Government they want because they are the boss. But I only have one request — please use your vote wisely when the time comes,” Dr Chua said at a dinner here on Sunday.
He said the people had to ask themselves this: “If Pakatan Rakyat replaced Barisan Nasional, is everything going to become better? Can Pakatan do better than Barisan? If not, then why change?”
He added that the people also had to consider that Pakatan had not put up a clear stand over who their Prime Minister-elect was.
“I do not dare to say Barisan is perfect. We have flaws but then it also cannot be denied that the country has developed tremendously under the present Government since Independence,” said Dr Chua.
On the contentious cyanide gold mining issue in Bukit Koman, Dr Chua said MCA was on the people’s side in finding a solution to the problems. He stressed that the issue should not be politicised and urged the Opposition not to exaggerate matters.
“We are willing to help, so I do not think it is right to manipulate the issue. We shall accept the expert’s advice and suggestions while our party leaders will work together to solve the issue,” said Dr Chua, adding that he guaranteed that the matter would be looked into by himself and the party’s top brass.
MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who was also at the dinner, said the party wanted to solve problems and not exploit issues.
“As the Health Minister, I promise that a health study will be conducted so that everyone will be able to understand the issue more,” he said.
Also present were mca vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.-MyStar
