Two men who were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for alleged involvement in terrorism have been released.
Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said Shamsuddin Alik and Mohd Sarail Osman were released at 10pm on Tuesday.
“They were arrested in Tawau on Nov 15 last year. Under the original detention order, they were only expected to be released in January 2014,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Syed Ibrahim said he was informed of their release in an SMS from their lawyer Fadiah Nadwa.
With their release, those still being detained under the ISA are six men from Sri Lanka, two from India, two from Iraq, two Indonesians, a Bangladeshi and a Filipino.
Inspector-General of Police Secretariat’s assistant public relations chief Asst Comm Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf confirmed the duo’s release.
