Emergency motion to condemn Israeli attacks in Gaza

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has directed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz to table an emergency motion in the Dewan Rakyat today to express Malaysia’s strong condemnation against the latest Israeli attacks on the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Prime Minister said the motion, among others, would:

> Strongly condemn Israeli military attacks in Gaza that have resulted in the loss of lives of Palestinians;

> Urge the United Nations (UN) Security Council to issue a resolution demanding Israel to immediately stop its military aggression;

> Urge the UN to hold an emergency session if the Security Council fails to do so;

> Express the solid support of Malaysians for the struggle of the Palestinians; and

> Forward the resolution to all parliaments, especially the American Congress, and British and European Parliaments.

Najib, who is here for the 21st Asean Summit and other related summit conferences, said he had raised the issue of the attacks against Gaza at the summit yesterday.

Forty people have been killed, including Hamas leader Ahmed Jaberi, while more than 345 others were injured.

Najib said the attacks were inhumane and had violated international laws, international humanitarian laws and the UN Charter.

He also described it as war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Fourth Convention on the protection of civilians in a war.

“Malaysia holds firmly to the stand that there was no strong reason to use unfair, indiscriminate and excessive force on Gaza,” he said.
