Minister urges Muslims to hold prayers for lasting peace in Gaza

Muslims in the country have been advised to hold prayers for the people of Gaza to live in peace.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said prayers would help “make a difference”.

“Some people may think that nothing can come from prayers compared with other forms of assistance, but as Muslims, we have to pray to achieve all objectives,” he said.

The minister called on mosques and surau throughout the country to hold prayers for the safety of the Palestinians.

He said mosques under the jurisdiction of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia, such as Masjid Negara, Masjid Putra, Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and the Federal Territory Mosque, and other mosques in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, should conduct prayers.

These mosques are scheduled to have special sermons on the issue of Palestine today.

Jamil Khir said in the context of seeking to protect the Palestinians, Malaysia was on the right track in using every available avenue to assist them.

He said efforts to help should continue with the support of the international community.
