Israel’s action could lead to more terrorist acts

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein warned that heavy military action by Israel against Gaza could bring about a rise in militancy in the world.

“And it's not just the extremist militants. Even those, who are not extremist by nature, will look at Israel's heavy-handedness and feel angry at them,” he said during a mass circumcision ceremony in Batu Umno in Gombak yesterday.

The Government, he said, had also been monitoring the situation involving two Malaysians caught in Lebanon for alleged links to terrorist group al-Qaeda for over a year.

“We know of their actions. We know that their network is not just in Malaysia but also in neighbouring countries,” he said.

Muhamad Razin Sharhan Mustafa Kamal, 21, and Razif Mohd Ariff, 30, are currently facing trial in a Lebanese military tribunal. The Home and Foreign ministries were watching the trial closely to ensure they were treated fairly, he said.

Meanwhile, he said his ministry would be spearheading the “Peace Wave” movement to inspire “world peace”.

It would work with various non-governmental bodies and youth groups to inspire peace in the Middle East and let the people know the aspirations of the silent majority.
