Women take online fight to the streets

AN online argument over a post on Facebook took an ugly turn when a beautician, her husband and brother were brutally assaulted by a group of men in Jalan Kepong on Monday.

The incident began when a 22-year-old woman posted a picture of herself on her social networking website.

It attracted many comments and one came from the woman's online friend, an 18-year-old beautician.

The beautician's comments were not flattering which resulted in both women exchanging barbs online.

The exchanges, however, escalated with the woman inviting the beautician for a meeting to settle the argument amicably.

On Monday at 12.45am, the beautician went to a bus stop along Jalan Kepong accompanied by her brother and husband.

At the meeting place, she noticed her online friend was already there with five men, all in their 20s.

It was learnt that the discussion between the two women began amicably but later turned ugly when the beautician was punched in the face several times by the other woman.

Then cat fight began with both women clawing at each other.

The beautician's husband and brother were also then attacked.

They were chased by the other woman's friends who were armed with a parang.

Unable to catch the duo, the group returned and smashed the windscreen of the beautician's Perodua Myvi.

The woman, who had posted a photograph of herself online, and her five friends then fled from the scene, leaving the beautician and her family members injured.

The three sought treatment at a nearby clinic before lodging a report at the Kepong police station.

No arrests have been made yet in connection with the case.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the case was being investigated under voluntarily causing hurt, committing mischief and damage, and criminal intimidation.
